EuroCup Clubs Meeting tips off 2020-21 season
The 2020-21 7DAYS EuroCup season will start on September 30, 2020
The 24 clubs that will participate in the 2020-21 7DAYS EuroCup season met remotely on Friday with Jordi Bertomeu, Euroleague Basketball President and CEO, and with league executives to plan for the new campaign.The meeting started with a review of the 2019-20 season, which was highlighted by remarkable 91% growth in the EuroCup’s social media fanbase, as well as television distribution reaching 127 countries and territories, and completed with EuroLeague TV OTT for a completely global reach.
The clubs also reviewed the data on club budget structures and its evolution in recent years and the main pillars of the Financial Stability & Fair Play Regulations (FSFPR) that will be implemented starting with the 2021-22 season, namely:
The prohibition of overdue payables.
Minimum participation budget of 2 million euros.
Limitation of expenses allocated to player salaries to 65% of the total expenses of the club.
Limitation of shareholder contributions to a maximum of 65% of the total expenses of the club.
Aggregate financial deficit limited to 10% of a club’s average budget in a three-year period.
Management Control Commission to oversee compliance and to provide training sessions to clubs during the 2020-21 season.With regards to the 2020-21 season, clubs reviewed and discussed the following topics:
The officiating department reported to the attendees on several topics related to its operations, including 2019-20 performance, agreement with the Union of Euroleague Basketball Referees, Instant Replay System, 2020-21 referees release and recruitment, new measures to improve performance, and communications with clubs.
The status of negotiations of media rights in their territories, with eight of the thirteen markets to continue existing premium broadcast agreements, and the remaining five enjoying new partners or in advanced negotiations with existing and/or new platforms.
The regular season calendar and the updated competition bylaws, which include exceptional in-arena and digital commercial platforms as well as extended audiovisual rights for clubs to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in the 2020-21 season.
