Enric Carbonell: It’s crazy that we still don’t know what the Euroleague will be like next season

Enric Carbonell, GM of Valencia, made a statement to Radio Intereconomia Valencia.

“It’s crazy that we still don’t know what the Euroleague will be like next season, who will play in the competition. We also have a plan B in case we have to play in the Eurocup.

“We are working with the Euroleague to have security. Call it what you want, be it an A-licence or a multi-year licence. We are negotiating with the Euroleague to get the stability we need to develop. It is not only a sporting problem, the Euroleague understands how inconvenient it is to have to wait until the end of the season year after year to resolve the status, but it is a problem of the business model itself, for fans and sponsors”.

“In our municipality we have the highest income tax at 54 per cent. The exception is the first year, when it is 19 per cent if you are not a Valencia citizen or resident. Madrid has a lower income tax of 9%. Our team, if it played and paid alongside Real Madrid, would cost 1,300,000 euros less. If we were to renew the players’ contracts for next season, the difference would be even greater, as several players are considered new to the Valencian community. In Vitoria the tax is 5-6% lower, but they have a tax exemption of 300,000 euros’.
