ELPA asks EuroLeague and all participating club to suspend the competition
ELPA has asked EuroLeague and all participating clubs to put players’ health and safety first and thus suspend the competition until health, safety and freedom of movement can be guaranteed
ELPA has sent an official letter to inform EuroLeague, that during the course of the last few days, more and more players have expressed their increased and justified concerns about their health and that of their families, if clubs proceed with their current competition schedule during the COVID-19 crisis. The changing circumstances required a further reminder that EuroLeague and the participating clubs cannot ask from players to put their health and that of their families at risk for participating in travel and games that might expose them to an increased probability of contracting COVID-19. In addition, players cannot be asked to circumvent national health regulations by dodging travel restrictions or bans on public gatherings to avoid further spreading of COVID-19.
In light of the above, ELPA has asked EuroLeague and all participating clubs to put players’ health and safety first and thus suspend the competition until health, safety and freedom of movement can be guaranteed.
