Edy Tavares: I don’t know if I’ll extend with Real Madrid. The NBA dream is still there

Edy Tavares doesn’t know if he will sign a contract extension with Real Madrid

Edy Tavares doesn’t know if he will sign a contract extension with Real Madrid.

The big man is on an expiring contract and Real Madrid doesn’t want to go higher than €5 million gross per season if Tavares won’t commit to a long term contract.

As reported by Relevo, Tavares’ dream is still the NBA where he has played between Hawks and Cavaliers with no luck in 2016.

“I don’t know if I’m going to extend with Madrid” Tavares said. “The truth is that I’m on an expiring contract, and I don’t know what to tell you. Yes, I hope we agree, but the dream of the NBA is there too. I’m not going to deny it”.

Per Basketnews, The Portland Trail Blazers want him but the deal’s largest barrier is Real Madrid’s substantial buyout clause, which was set in a five-year contract inked in 2019. The NBA’s buyout for Tavares is much more expensive than the €6 million that Facundo Campazzo had to pay to complete his transfer to the Denver Nuggets in 2020.

“If I stay, fine, but if I don’t, nothing happens. I’ve said many times that I’m thinking about the NBA, but you have to analyze everything,” he added.

“Everything is up in the air, but that doesn’t worry me. I’m concentrating on the World Cup with my team and then I’ll try to enjoy every second with my club until the last game.”
