Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones does not believe the franchise should extend quarterback Dak Prescott’s contract during this offseason.
“We don’t need it, but we can do it if it was everyone’s will,” Jones told the NFL combine on Friday, according to Jon Machota of The Athletic. “If it’s not possible, what we have works.”
Prescott is entering the final season of a four-year, $160 million contract signed in 2021 that includes no-trade and tag clauses. He will become an unrestricted free agent in 2025 if the parties cannot agree on a new contract.
According to Spotrac, Dallas currently has a cap of $4 million. Signing an extension for Prescott could give the club financial relief, as it will have a cap hit of $59.4 million in 2024.
