Boulougne Metropolitans 92 bolstered its frontline by signing center Assem Marei to a two-month deal, the club announced Monday. Marei (2.06 meters, 28 years old) steps in for Miralem Halilovic, who is currently injured. He arrives from Brose Bamberg, where Marei averaged 10.1 points and 6.0 rebounds in 27 German League games last season. He started his career with Al Zamalek of his native Egypt and has also played for Minnesota State University Mankato in the United States, Siauliai of Lithuania, medi Bayreuth of Germany, and Pinar Karsiyaka Izmir of Turkey. He helped Siauliai win the Baltic League title in 2016. Marei has also been a member of the Egyptian national team. He helped Egypt win a silver medal at AfroBasket 2013, when he led the tournament in rebounds (11.6 rpg.) and averaged 14.6 points over seven games.
