Bobby Knight, one of the most influential and iconic figures in American and global basketball, has passed away at the age of 83. Robert Montgomery Knight was born on October 25, 1940, in Massillon, Ohio, but he is most famously associated with the Indiana Hoosiers, where he spent 29 years of his career.
A Hall of Fame member since 1991, “The General” won 902 Division I NCAA games, a record that was only surpassed by Mike Krzyzewski in 2011.
As a player, he was an NCAA champion in 1960 with Ohio. As a coach for the Hoosiers, he achieved three NCAA titles (1976, 1981, 1987) and an NIT championship (1979). He also received 2 Henry Iba Awards, a Naismith College Coach of The Year, and 3 Associated Press College Basketball Coach of The Year awards.
Knight also led Team USA to Olympic gold in Los Angeles in 1984.
