Blazers guard CJ McCollum exits with sprained ankle, status for Saturday uncertain

McCollum was injured in a contact with Mavs forward Kleber.

The Portland Trail Blazers are uncertain about the severity of the left ankle sprain that forced shooting guard CJ McCollum to exit Friday night’s 120-112 loss to the Dallas Mavericks early in the second quarter. “Usually, the second day is the worst,” McCollum said. “So we’ll see how it feels tomorrow. Get some treatment, try to compress it and see how it feels.”

The Blazers have the second game of a road back-to-back set Saturday night against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

McCollum, Portland’s second-leading scorer with an average of 21.5 points per game, was not wearing a protective boot after the game. He walked slowly as he exited the American Airlines Center. Blazers guard was injured when he landed on Mavs power forward Maxi Kleber’s foot after driving to the basket with 8 minutes, 4 seconds remaining in the second quarter. The team announced minutes later that McCollum would not return, and he received treatment in the locker room the rest of the game.
