Bertomeu: Panathinaikos will be with us in the coming years

EuroLeague Basketball CEO Jordi Bertomeu talks with Gazzetta.gr about the situation of the Panathinaikos.

“Panathinaikos, like the other ten teams with a contract, is automatically registered for the next season, as they have a permanent license. Every summer they just need to be informed about the changes related to the new season. Given the global situation, we need to understand that there may be delays in this process, as there are many uncertainties on the table and many groups have not completed their planning. But to answer your question clearly, Panathinaikos has already announced its participation in the next Euroleague and will be with us in the coming years, observing the contract it has signed with the other 10 teams”

Last week the greek powerhouse expressed the intention to leave Euroleague.

“I do not know what the reasons are. The financial data and all the methods used by the competitions for the measurement of growth, the attendance of the fans, the television audience or the digital development, among others, are contrary to the statements of Dimitris. I know that there is a lot of speculation about all of the above, but I will never go into the process of commenting on it. As for the letter, Panathinaikos and its management know very well what they have to do if they want to leave the Euroleague . The requirements are very clear and the same for each club.
