BBL director Holz says league will “of course refrain from sanctioning” statements against racism
Bundesliga managing director has specified the league’s stance on the issue.
In the run-up to the easycredit BBL final tournament 2020 in Munich, Stefan Holz, managing director of the easycredit Basketball Bundesliga, has clarified the league position on eventual players protests for the current situation going on in the USA.
"As a league, we have the task of referring to statutes and checking compliance with them, but that says nothing about our personal dismay at the situation in the United States. Right now we feel in solidarity, especially with the professionals in our league who come from North America and with those who want to set an example. Since the BBL has always stood for cosmopolitanism and diversity, we want to deal sensitively with the situation. Because the athletes are primarily interested in a statement against racism and not in individual political opinions, we will of course refrain from sanctions in this process", Holz said.
