New Zealand, Spain (women), France, Puerto Rico (men) and Australia (men and women) grabbed the last 6 tickets for the FIBA 3x3 World Cup

New Zealand, Spain (women), France, Puerto Rico (men) and Australia (men and women) grabbed the last 6 tickets for the FIBA 3×3 World Cup at the FIBA 3×3 World Cup Qualifier 2019 in San Juan, Puerto Rico on May 4-5.

In the men’s category, the Puerto Rican hosts benefited from the support of their loud fans who packed the historic Hiram Bithorn baseball stadium. They went on to be the only undefeated team (4-0) and a proper highlights factory, starting with dunk machine Luis ‘Pela Coco’Hernandez.

Australia and France also earned their ticket to the World Cup, thanks to the 2 best individual scoring performances of the weekend. Tim Coenraad scored 13 points for Australia in the last game of the tournament against Czech Republic. Rémi Dibo did even better: he tallied 14 points in the previous qualifying game against the same opponents.

Australia was the only country to qualify both men and women over the weekend. Their women’s team was unstoppable in San Juan. They won all 4 games without ever conceding more than 10 points. Rebecca Cole and Alice Kunek finished as the team’s co-top scorers.

Spain clinched their ticket to Amsterdam under the leadership of their star Paula Palomares, who had the play of the tournament: a slick crossover followed by a spectacular key assist. New Zealand were the last team to add their name to the party after they beat Brazil in the last qualifying game.

A total of 16 teams competed at the first-ever FIBA 3×3 World Cup Qualifier. With these last 6 qualified teams confirmed, the 40-team field is now complete. The 6th edition of the FIBA 3×3 World Cup will take place in Amsterdam, Netherlands on June 18-23.
